Faith For Our Planet hosted its first two-day workshop on 13th & 14th of June 2022 in Pakistan, convening faith and community leaders across South Asia. The workshop was a joint collaboration with local partner organizations including the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), The Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN), The Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Sciences (IFEES) and Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue (IRD).
The event was held at the old campus of the International Islamic University in Islamabad, located next to Faisal Mosque, the sixth-largest mosque in the world and the largest within South Asia.
Hosted by the International Islamic University (the 2nd highest ranking university in Pakistan), the workshop included participants from the WWF, the Rural Support Programmes Network (Pakistan’s largest NGO network), the Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environment Science (IFEES – one of the organizations to develop the Islamic Declaration on Climate Change) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) amongst others.
The workshop speakers and participants included a former Director General for Forestry for the government of Pakistan, an acclaimed Hindu Pakistani religious leader, the Director of the International Islamic University, the Program Director for Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), the Secretary General of the Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan and a sitting Pakistani National Assembly Member.
